During the month of July, OVFC responded to 79 calls. Volunteers attended the Playin’ in the Park Touch a Truck event and provided stand-by for the fireworks that evening.

Fire extinguishers—everyone should have one in their home and every adult should know how to use one. When selecting a fire extinguisher select a multi-purpose extinguisher that can be used on all types of home fires. After you purchase your fire extinguisher, read the instructions and become familiar with its parts and operation. Your fire extinguisher should be installed close to an exit. When you use your fire extinguisher keep your back to a clear exit, so you can make an easy escape if the fire cannot be controlled. You should only use a fire extinguisher when the fire is contained to a small area and is not growing; everyone has exited the building, the fire department has been called, and the room is not full of smoke. When operating a fire extinguisher, remember the word “PASS.”

“Pull the Pin:” hold the extinguisher with the nozzle pointing away from you and release the locking mechanism.
“Aim Low:” Point the nozzle at the base of the fire.
“Squeeze:” Squeeze the lever slowly and evenly.
“Sweep:” Sweep the nozzle from side to side.

Most important, know when to go! Fire extinguishers are only one element of a fire response plan, the primary element is a safe escape!

Our Golf Tournament will be held Friday, September 8 at Meadows Farm Golf Course. See our website for more information.
